Do you tweet? Why or why not?

A common misconception is that Twitter is a website where people just talk about what they’re eating today. “Why would I want to know what so-and-so is eating for lunch?” goes the refrain.

Admitting our obvious bias, as restaurateurs for the past 15+ years, we are quite interested in what you’re having for lunch! But on a greater level, Twitter is more than just a lunch info distribution network – it’s another place where you forge real-life relationships. In real life, we talk with our friends and family about what we did at work, who was giving us trouble or made us feel good during the day, and yes, the foods we’re eating. Sharing individual moments and thoughts are what bring us together as people.

Twitter is therefore a reflection of real life, except you’re getting to know people online. We’ve had people come into the restaurant that found us first on Twitter, and the connection we make with them is as legitimate as with any real-life friend!

As people on Twitter are making these connections and talking about where they’re going and what they’re eating, we decided to start using a new Twitter lunch hashtag called #WFL – What’s For Lunch? As the eleven o’clock hour approaches for office workers across St. Louis, stumped as to where they might eat, we encourage you to search the #WFL hashtag and get inspired to eat!

…and of course, if you happen to get inspired to eat beef brisket tacos with a pepper pot and a cold beverage, you are always welcome to come visit us in Dogtown!

Yelp Shot Glasses and Pinata FiguresThis past Saturday we had the privilege of hosting a nice event for a group of active Yelp community members here in St. Louis. Yelp is an online community that connects businesses with customers who have the opportunity to read about their businesses, talk with other Yelp members about it and even leave a review. The party was a gathering for the “Yelp Elite”, those participants on the sitewho are the “the most passionate Yelpers that makes our community so funny, useful and cool! (Yelp.com)” This party gave the Yelp Elite a chance to see what Latitude 26 is all about and we were pleased to share the evening with them.

St. Louis’ Yelp Community Manager, Abby Schwarz, did an amazing job with festive decorations and the perfect mix of guests and treats. There were miniature piñatas, an inflatable limbo pole, tons of Yelp trinkets and a sombrero photo contest. (The most stylish sombrero-wearer received a pair of tickets to the Sex and the City 2 movie premier this weekend!) Attendees got to sample some tasty dishes from our restaurant, and also Sauza Tequila and Schlafly Beer from Major Brands, Wines from Argentina and Chile from Pinnacle Imports, and delicious “margarita” chocolates from Kakao. It was a real treat to be selected as the host of this party! We had a blast, and the reviews seem to reflect that our guests did as well!
